Manufacturing and industry businesses in Castellón: buying, selling and valuation
Adding up all the manufacturing divisions, the INE (Spanish National Statistics Institute) records 2,533 active industrial establishments in Castellón at the start of 2025, 11.2% of those in the Valencian Community (Comunidad Valenciana). The activity with the most establishments is the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, with 381; it is followed by the manufacture of metal products, with 366, the repair and installation of machinery, with 305, and the food industry, with 281.
The non-metallic minerals division includes ceramics, but also glass, cement, concrete and stone, so it is not the same as the number of tile manufacturers. Its relative weight is striking, though: Castellón's establishments in that division account for 27.5% of those in the whole Valencian Community. The map is completed by wood and cork (184), machinery (150), printing (139), furniture (139) and chemicals (112).

What affects the value of manufacturing and industry businesses in Castellón
An industrial business is bought for its ability to generate cash with the assets it has, so the condition of those assets comes first. The buyer will want to know the age of the lines and the main equipment, the investments made and those postponed, the level of capacity utilisation and what would need to be invested to maintain production. A plant at the limit of its capacity and with old machinery may have good profit and, even so, a lower value than expected.
Commercial dependence is the second big issue. Manufacturing for a few large customers, or as a supplier to another local industry, brings volume but concentrates risk. If there are customers abroad, the buyer analyses the currency of invoicing, how collection is secured and who manages those relationships. The more spread out the portfolio and the better documented the terms, the better.
When the process consumes a lot of energy or raw materials with volatile prices, the buyer will review how gas and electricity are contracted and whether the company can pass increases on to its prices. Also important are the plant's environmental and activity permits, the product or quality certifications that customers require, and the situation of the industrial unit: owned within the company, owned by the owner personally or rented.
Finally, technical know-how: formulas, processes, tooling and specialised staff. Documenting procedures and ensuring the continuity of middle managers reduces the risk that production depends on one or two people.

Frequently asked questions
The INE publishes establishments, not companies, by province and activity: 2,533 manufacturing establishments. In the count of companies by broad groups, industry totals 2,540 active companies in the province.
No. The 381 establishments in that division include ceramics together with glass, cement, concrete, stone and other products. The INE does not publish the specific class of ceramic tiles by province.
It can be done either way. If the unit belongs to the company, it is included in the price; if it belongs to the owner, it can be sold separately or leased to the buyer. Separating it often makes the transaction more affordable for the buyer and lets the seller keep a rental income. It is worth confirming the tax implications with a tax adviser.
The buyer will deduct from the value whatever they have to invest to keep the plant in good condition. If you have postponed equipment renewals, it is better to acknowledge and quantify them than to let them surface in the technical review.
Manufacturers that want to expand capacity or range, customers or suppliers looking to integrate, industrial groups from other areas that want a local presence, and investors looking for a business with its own management team.
