Solar energy businesses in Castellón: buying, selling and valuation

There is no official statistic that counts solar companies by province. Panel installers are classified together with other electrical or thermal installers, and generation plants together with all electricity producers and distributors. That is why this page gives no provincial figure for Castellón and focuses instead on what determines the value of these businesses.

As a regional reference, the INE (Spanish National Statistics Institute) counted 1,256 companies in the Valencian Community (Comunidad Valenciana) at the start of 2025 in the group of electric power generation, transmission and distribution, a group that includes every type of generation and the distribution companies, not just solar, and 9,321 companies in electrical, plumbing and other construction installation, among which solar installers are included without it being possible to separate them.

What affects the value of solar energy businesses in Castellón

Two very different businesses need to be distinguished. An installation company sells projects: its value depends on the portfolio of signed jobs, the margin per installation, the way it wins customers and the stability of its technical team. A company that owns an operating plant sells energy income over many years: its value depends on expected production, the electricity sales contracts and operating costs.

In an installer, the buyer will analyse how much comes from households, businesses or large projects, how much weight public subsidies carry in its customers' decisions and what would happen if they changed, the warranties given on installations already delivered, and the agreements with manufacturers and distributors of panels and inverters. The authorisations of the company and its staff are also reviewed.

In a plant, the review is more technical and legal: grid access and connection permits, administrative authorisations, land rights and the term of the land lease, actual production history against the estimate, the condition of the equipment and maintenance contracts. It is worth confirming regulatory matters with a legal adviser.

In both cases, well-organised documentation speeds up the transaction and protects the price: complete projects, certificates, contracts and production data are what allow a buyer to make an offer without discounts for uncertainty.

Frequently asked questions

There is no official figure. INE statistics do not separate solar companies: installers appear with other installers and plants with all electricity producers and distributors, and those groups are only published at the level of the Valencian Community.

Like other installation services companies: on its normalised profit, adjusted for the portfolio of signed projects, customer diversification, dependence on public subsidies and on the owner, and pending warranties on delivered work.

Its value is based mainly on the future cash flows that the sale of its energy will generate, discounted according to risk, and on the robustness of its permits, its land rights and its electricity sales contracts.

Contracts with customers and suppliers, authorisations, warranties given, insurance, permits and, in the case of plants, actual production data, maintenance contracts and the status of the land.

Because no official source publishes them. We prefer not to give an unsupported estimate and to limit ourselves to the regional data, which we describe exactly as the INE publishes it.
