Business sales and acquisitions in L'Horta (Valencia)

When someone says they want to sell or buy a business "in L'Horta", they usually mean the area around the city of València. In official statistics, however, there is no single district (comarca) with that name: the Portal Estadístic de la Generalitat Valenciana divides it into three comarcas, L'Horta Nord, L'Horta Sud and the city of València itself. We present them together here, because the market treats them as one area, but we give the figures for each one separately.

The difference between the three is not just administrative. A workshop in Torrent, an accountancy practice in Paterna and a clinic in the centre of València share a labour market and suppliers, but they do not usually attract the same kind of buyer: someone looking for an industrial company in the metropolitan belt is rarely the person who wants to take over a practice in the capital.

If you are thinking of selling, start by placing your business in the comarca it belongs to and identifying who you compete with for customers and staff. If you want to buy, the variety of the area means you need to define clearly what you are looking for before asking anyone for information.

L'Horta in figures

Population

1,662,771

Economic activity

The three comarcas have 1,662,771 inhabitants according to the 2025 municipal register (padrón); that figure is the sum of L'Horta Nord, L'Horta Sud and València. The capital accounts for 840,792 residents, L'Horta Sud for 499,622 and L'Horta Nord for 322,357. Outside the city, the most populous municipalities are Torrent, Mislata, Aldaia, Manises and Xirivella in the south, and Paterna, Burjassot, Alboraia/Alboraya and Montcada/Moncada in the north.

The business base varies a great deal from one part to another. The city of València has 70,256 active companies: 17,563 in professional and technical activities, 7,712 in education, health and social services and 3,047 in information and communications. In those three groups the capital is well ahead of the other two comarcas.

L'Horta Sud has 29,127 companies, of which 2,258 are industrial, more than in the city itself (1,901), and 11,097 belong to retail, transport and hospitality. L'Horta Nord has 21,231, including 1,331 industrial companies and 3,949 in professional and technical activities. These are figures from the central business register (directorio central de empresas) at the start of 2025, published by comarca.

That is where the sectors we highlight come from: professional services, technology and health, because of the weight of those groups in the capital, and manufacturing, distribution and retail, because of the industry and the retail and transport block in L'Horta Sud and L'Horta Nord.

Frequently asked questions

Because the comarca grouping used by the Portal Estadístic de la Generalitat Valenciana divides the area into L'Horta Nord, L'Horta Sud and the city of València. The total population shown here is the sum of the three, and companies are shown for each one. The former L'Horta Oest no longer appears as a comarca in those statistics.

It can change who is interested in it. Location affects access to customers, the cost of the premises and how easy it is to hire. The buyer will check whether the customer base depends on that specific location and whether the lease allows the business to stay in the same place after the sale.

As well as the accounts, they usually ask for the activity licences for the industrial unit, the condition of the machinery, the contracts with the main customers and suppliers and the position of key staff. Having that documentation in order before talking to interested parties avoids delays, because doubts about licences and facilities hold up many negotiations.

By reducing how much it depends on you before going to market. If clients only deal with you, the buyer will assume that some of them will leave with the change. It helps to have a team that already manages client relationships, written procedures and an agreed transition period in which you introduce the new owner.

Yes, and here it is especially advisable. The company is first presented anonymously, with a summary that contains nothing that would identify it, and more information is only given to those who sign a confidentiality agreement. That way competitors, suppliers and employees do not find out too early.
