Manufacturing and industry businesses in Valencia: buying, selling and valuation

Manufacturing in the province of Valencia totalled 10,816 active establishments as of 2025, according to the INE (Spanish National Statistics Institute), which is 47.6% of those in the whole Valencian Community (Comunidad Valenciana). The figure is the sum of all manufacturing branches, from food to machinery repair. Here, Valencia means the province of Valencia, not only the city.

By branch, the manufacture of metal products (except machinery) accounts for 1,632 establishments, the food industry 1,183, printing 925, repair and installation of machinery 792 and furniture manufacturing 783. These are premises, not companies: a company with two factories counts twice.

What affects the value of manufacturing and industry businesses in Valencia

In an industrial company, the buyer starts with the plant. They want to know whether the machinery is up to date or needs immediate investment, how much capacity is actually used and whether the industrial building is owned or leased. Undisclosed pending investment ends up being deducted from the price, so it is better to put it on the table from the start.

Then comes the customer portfolio. A metalworking shop that works for a single manufacturer has a very different value from another with many customers in different sectors, even if both earn the same. Framework agreements, approved-supplier status and the length of each relationship help to show that those orders will keep coming.

Technical know-how usually rests with a few people: the production manager, the quality manager or the founder. Documenting processes, technical data sheets and cost breakdowns ensures that this know-how does not leave with the seller. Quality certifications, environmental and activity licences and discharge or emissions permits, where the activity requires them, must be in force and in the name of the right holder.

Finally, working capital. High inventories, long collection periods or dependence on a single raw-material supplier change how much money the buyer has to put in on top of the price. Explaining this well avoids last-minute disputes over the working capital adjustment.

Frequently asked questions

By number of establishments, according to the INE, the leading ones are metal products, food, printing, repair and installation of machinery, and furniture. These are counts of premises, not companies, and say nothing about the size of each one.

It can be done either way. Sometimes the owner keeps the property and leases it to the buyer, which reduces the price to be paid and secures rental income for the owner. Each option has different tax effects, so it is worth confirming this with a tax adviser.

A great deal. The buyer calculates how much they will have to invest in the first few years to maintain production. If that investment is high, they deduct it from the price; if the plant has been renewed and maintenance is documented, that discount disappears.

The buyer will see it as a risk and may ask for part of the price to depend on those customers staying. Diversifying before selling, or having multi-year contracts signed with them, improves your negotiating position.

They are not mandatory for selling, but if your customers require them, they are part of the business and their validity will be checked. Not having them can limit the number of buyers, especially among industrial groups.

Competitors seeking production capacity or new customers, suppliers or customers who want to integrate the supply chain, managers in the sector who make the leap to running their own business and, for larger companies, financial investors.
