Distribution and logistics businesses in Valencia: buying, selling and valuation
Under distribution and logistics we group wholesale trade together with transport, storage and postal activities. In the province of Valencia they totalled 28,513 active establishments as of 2025, 54.3% of the total for the Valencian Community (Comunidad Valenciana). Wholesalers and trade intermediaries contribute 15,089, land transport 9,132, warehousing and support activities for transport 1,977 and postal and courier activities 2,244. Here, Valencia means the province of Valencia, not only the city.
The port offers another scale of activity: at the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia, Puertos del Estado (the Spanish state ports agency) recorded in 2025 total port traffic of 80,672,362 tonnes and 5,662,661 TEU, according to provisional year-end data. These are port traffic figures, not figures for the local companies that work with it.

What affects the value of distribution and logistics businesses in Valencia
In a wholesaler, the value lies in the relationship with suppliers and customers. If the company distributes third-party brands, the buyer will first ask about the distribution agreements: whether there is territorial exclusivity, how long they last and whether the manufacturer can terminate them on a change of ownership. Losing a main brand after the purchase is the scenario they fear most.
In transport and warehousing, the assets and how they are financed carry weight: lorries, trailers, forklifts, warehouse management systems and the terms of the warehouse lease. You need to review the age of the fleet, the necessary transport authorisations and the leasing or renting commitments the buyer will take on.
Margins in these businesses are usually narrow, so small differences in efficiency change profit considerably. Data such as inventory turnover, average collection and payment periods or cost per shipment let the buyer understand whether the business is well run or has room for improvement.
Illustrative example: an operator serving several shippers on annual contracts and another dependent on a single industrial customer may have the same turnover, but the first offers the buyer an income base that is much harder to lose.

It adds up the establishments in wholesale trade and in land, sea and air transport, storage and postal activities, according to the INE (Spanish National Statistics Institute). It does not include retail, which has its own page.
It can, if the business lives off port traffic, because the location and relationships with freight forwarders and shipping lines are hard to replicate. But what is valued is how that location translates into customers and margins, not the proximity itself.
It depends on what each agreement says. Some allow the supplier to end the relationship if control of the company changes. Reviewing them before starting the sale, and confirming this with a legal adviser, avoids surprises in the middle of negotiations.
Its condition, its age and how it is financed are examined. A renewed fleet reduces the investment the buyer will have to make; a fleet with a lot of outstanding leasing increases the debt deducted from the price.
Other distributors that want to add brands or territory, logistics operators seeking capacity, manufacturers that prefer to control their distribution, and investors attracted by businesses with stable customers.
In businesses with a lot of inventory and customer credit, a normal level of stock, receivables and payables is agreed that must be delivered with the company. If there is more or less on the completion date, the price is adjusted. Defining it well from the initial offer avoids one of the most common disputes at the end.
