What affects the value of technology and IT businesses in Alicante
In a technology company, the buyer wants to know how the money is made: licences or subscriptions for an in-house product, maintenance and support on a subscription basis, bespoke projects or placing developers with clients. Recurring subscription or maintenance income is valued much more highly than projects, because it continues without having to be sold again every month.
If there is an in-house product, ownership of the code is reviewed: that it belongs to the company and not to the developers or an external supplier, which third-party licences it uses and on what terms, and whether it is documented. The customer churn rate, the development of recurring income and the cost of acquiring each new customer also matter.
The team is the central asset and the most volatile one. The buyer will analyse who knows the system in depth, whether there is dependence on one or two people, how key talent is retained and whether contracts include confidentiality and assignment-of-rights clauses. A company where only the founder understands the product's architecture is difficult to buy.
In managed services and business support, what counts is the service level agreements, their length, concentration in a few customers and information security. Complying with data protection regulations and having documented security procedures helps you get through the buyer's review.

Frequently asked questions
The INE (Spanish National Statistics Institute) publishes the province's establishments in programming, IT consultancy and information services, which appear on this page. As companies, the Generalitat publishes the broader information and communications block.
It depends on how much of its turnover is recurring, customer retention, growth, margins and dependence on specific people. A bespoke projects company is valued in a similar way to other professional services; a subscription company, with more attention to its recurring income.
The buyer will want to check that the rights to that code were assigned to the company in writing. If not, it is advisable to regularise this before selling; it is worth confirming this with a legal adviser specialising in intellectual property.
It may be of interest for its clients and its team, but the buyer will look at staff turnover, margins by profile and concentration in a few clients. If the team leaves after the sale, the business disappears with it.
Technology companies seeking customers, product or talent, groups from other sectors that want to add digital capabilities and investors specialising in software. Location matters less than in other sectors, because much of the work is delivered remotely.
