HVAC and air conditioning businesses in Alicante: buying, selling and valuation
There is no official statistic counting how many HVAC companies there are in the province of Alicante. The closest thing the INE (Spanish National Statistics Institute) publishes at provincial level is the division of specialised construction activities, with 8,885 active establishments at the start of 2025, 41.6% of those in the Valencian Community (Comunidad Valenciana). That figure lumps together air conditioning installers, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, floor layers and other building trades.
To get a little closer, at regional level the INE does separate the group of electrical, plumbing and other construction installation activities: 9,321 active companies across the Valencian Community in 2025. It does not distinguish HVAC firms from electricians either, but it gives a more accurate idea of the universe of installation companies it competes with and from which a buyer may come.

What affects the value of HVAC and air conditioning businesses in Alicante
In HVAC, the buyer immediately separates two businesses that often coexist within the same company: installing new equipment, which is project-based and depends on orders coming in, and maintenance, which is invoiced every year. A portfolio of signed maintenance contracts with residents' associations, offices, shops or hotels is what reassures most, because it is turnover that repeats even if the owner leaves.
Seasonality weighs heavily in this trade. If most of the turnover is concentrated in a few hot months, the buyer will want to see how fixed costs are covered the rest of the year and whether the company has managed to fill the winter with heating, aerothermal heat pumps or inspections. Present monthly sales for several financial years: a stable pattern, even a seasonal one, is valued more highly than one nobody understands.
Technicians are the hardest asset to replace. What matters is how many hold the qualifications and certificates that the regulations require to handle refrigerant gases and sign off installations, whether those qualifications are in the company's name or a specific person's, and whether the key technicians will stay after the sale. A company where only the owner can sign the certificates is worth less than one where that capability is spread out.
Agreements with equipment manufacturers and distributors also count, as do the van fleet and its condition, the stock of spare parts and how warranties on installations already carried out are managed. A buyer will ask who is responsible for a breakdown in equipment you installed before selling, so it is worth having this settled in writing.

Frequently asked questions
The INE does not publish that figure by province. The closest provincial figure is that of specialised construction establishments, which includes many other trades besides HVAC, so it should not be read as the number of air conditioning companies.
For most buyers, recurring maintenance under contract counts for more per euro of profit, because it is predictable. Installation brings volume, but depends on winning new projects every season. Ideally, show separately what each line contributes.
You can, but it needs planning. The buyer needs the company to be able to keep operating and signing off installations from day one, so it is advisable for other technicians to obtain the qualifications before the sale, or for you to agree a transition period during which you remain involved.
It does not penalise the business in itself if it is stable and well explained. The concern is that a weak summer could leave the company making a loss or short of cash. Showing several years of monthly sales and how the low months are financed reduces that doubt.
Often other installation companies that want to add maintenance customers or qualified technicians, building services companies that want to offer HVAC, and experienced technicians who would rather buy an up-and-running portfolio than start from scratch.
